Difficult Intravenous
Access
In
certain situations, treatment does not require long
term access and the duration of a standard peripheral
line catheter is acceptable. However, this has no bearing
as to whether the patient's vein will be difficult or
easy to access. In some cases, the vessels simply cannot
be palpated and an IV cannot be placed even under the
most expert skills or a nurse or doctor.
VAM can provide services
to assist any health care facility or agency with this
situation easily and the access device need not be a
PICC catheter. Using ultrasound imaging, we can obtain
peripheral IV access for even the most difficult of
venous access patients. The procedure, typically lasting
minutes, is performed with utmost regard to aseptic
technique for inserting a peripheral IV catheter, with
state of the art equipment and the same expertly trained
nurses who perform aseptic PICC line insertions.
